Weekly Newsletter - 7th November

This week in brief

We arrived back at school after the half-term break to discover that Niki (Mountain class TA) had painted a wonderful mural along the walls around the lobby and up the stairs! The ‘timeline’ mural incorporates children’s artwork and highlights class topics and events. Come and have a look - you’ll also find a gathering of small ‘woodland creatures’ in reception, created by Mountain class! Mountain spoke about their woodland adventures in this morning’s all-school puja and Lotus class shared their project about Native Americans. Dragonfly have also been busy and now cook their own lunches every Tuesday - this week’s menu was veggie spaghetti bolognese followed by jelly for dessert.Commentary from this week’s junior reporter, bla in Lotus class… “My fave thing that happened this week was…looking forward to…”

20th Anniversary Celebrations

We recently added a special video of former Head Teacher Kevin Fossey (filmed during the summer of 2014) to our Video Memories Project. Watch this and other videos from former staff and pupils, and share your memories of the school by sending in your own short video! Further projects celebrating our 20th Anniversary will follow later in the school year.

Mindfulness in Education (MiE)

We’re continuing to develop relationships and projects with key individuals and organisations within the global Mindfulness in Education (MiE) community: Nina Forde, one of our parent trustees, is an associate of the Mindfulness Initiative which is working with parliamentarians, media and policy makers to develop recommendations on the role of mindfulness in public policy and the workplace. In 2015 a report will be published by the APPG on Well-being Economics and our Marketing Co-ordinator, Sally, recently attended an inspiring APPG meeting at parliament which proved to be a great networking opportunity. Coming soon…a new quarterly Mindfulness Newsletter sharing news about the school’s ethos and approach, and Bea (Acting Administrative Head) and Alison (Head of Nursery) will be speaking at a national conference in London, Mindfulness in the Curriculum, on 18th November.
