Festive Fun at The Dharma Primary School

Children across the school have been celebrating the festive season with a Christmas Tree Challenge, The X-mas Factor, story-telling and artwork, and an ice-skating trip to Brighton’s Royal Pavilion ice rink. Here’s what some of them had to say about their activities:

Ice-skating

“Every year we all go ice-skating and it’s fun because you get to spend time with your friends and the ice-rink makes you feel like Christmas is coming and we had hot chocolate when we got back to school.”

The X-mas Factor

“We’ve been practising for the X-mas Factor which happens at the end of term. We can do mimes, drama, jokes, play music, or whatever we like and everyone comes to watch. It’s not a competition, it’s just a show where we have fun doing what we like. I don’t want to say what I’m doing because it’s a surprise.”

The Christmas Tree Challenge

“All the classes have made Christmas trees out of recycled things like paper, plastic bottles and toilet rolls. Some of the things for our tree were found in a bin on the street like lights and tinsel and we used a coat hanger for a star.”

“We used plastic bottles for the branches. It was fun to make and shows that you can re-use things that you might think are rubbish. At Christmas there’s lots of wrapping and paper from food and presents and so it’s good to see how some things can be re-used in ways you might not think of.”

Wishing you a very happy festive season and a peaceful new year from all at The Dharma Primary School.

Pupils discuss the school precepts

Pupils in Years 4-6 have been discussing the school precepts and some of their insights have been included in a set of five cards. Each small card has the school’s contact details on one side and one of the five school precepts on the other, along with a quote from a pupil. The cards are available from the ‘information shelf’ in the school’s reception area, by the office.

School Precepts

1. I will try not to harm people, animals or plants, caring for them in a way I would like to be cared for myself.

“Maybe the secret of happiness is to always treat others how you would like to be treated.”

2. I will try not to take things that belong to others, remember to ask when borrowing and try to share when appropriate.

“If you take something without asking then that person won’t trust you and it can cause problems, but if you share food, games or even ideas it can make the world better.”

3. I will try to be caring towards my friends and be respectful at all times to those who are not my friends.

“When someone younger than me, who I didn’t know, fell over in the playground I asked if they were ok and took them to the office for help.”

4. I will try to keep my body fit and healthy and my mind calm and clear by following that which brings health and happiness.

“Meditation makes my head feel better and football helps me be fit. It helps when you enjoy the things that also keep you healthy.”

5. I will try to say things that are honest and truthful and be mindful in my speech and voice.

“We were going out and my Dad put on a shirt that looked a bit strange, so I said it looked odd but in a kind way and that I liked another shirt better.”
