We cover all the main subjects and these are linked to projects for the children such as independent research work, model house building, and cultural studies of Africa and North American Native Indians. These topics are supported in IT and enhanced by craft activities and artwork. We work from a range of great stories and poems using these as springboards for discussion and writing. We look for opportunities to go on field trips to local centres of interest and to make local history and geography real and interesting for children.
As the oldest children in the school, the year five and six children are taught and given leadership roles. They frequently share their work to the school in assembly. They perform drama sketches and an entertaining end of year play. They include the younger children in playground activities and have cross class friends and reading buddies. They captain games in intra-mural sports such as football, netball, rugby and athletics and they represent the school in football and netball matches against other schools.
